abstract = "In this study, the HAND (Height Above the Nearest Drainage)
algorithm was applied to ASTER-GDEM and SRTM data in order to
determine susceptible flood areas at Para{\'{\i}}ba do Sul river
basin. The four class (waterlogged, ecotone, slope, plateau)
proposed by the algorithms authors were compared with inundation
areas delimited by hydrologic-hydraulic model at various
recurrence times. An alternative synthetic hydrography was applied
to the algorithm, ensuring equality between its streams and the
reference hydrography. HAND proved to be a promising method for
indicating susceptible flood areas. Most of the inundation area
indicated by hydrologic-hydraulic model was superimposed by the
waterlogged class. The ASTER-HAND had better contour of classes,
but more confusion. The SRTM-HAND had a higher percentage of
waterlogged class, but tended to overestimate the susceptible
flood areas.",
